Cherrygrove City is a small city in south-eastern Johto. To the east Route 29 connects it to New Bark Town and to the North Route 30 leads towards Violet City. It is where the player has their first battle with their Rival.
Though the city has no Gym, it is frequently passed through by Pokémon Trainers on their way to Violet City from New Bark Town.
The city acts mainly as a tutorial, introducing the player to the main tools of the game (the Pokémon Center, the Poké Mart, etc.).
Points of interest
Guide Gent
There is an old man named "Guide Gent" standing near the Pokémon Center. If the player is to talk to him, he will give the player a tour of the town, and if you talk to him after, in his house, he'll give you the Running Shoes.
Hidden Area
Located in the top right of the map and accessed from a hidden pathway on Route 30, it contains the only headbutt trees on the map.

Cherrygrove City's population is 16 and includes:
- the Guide Gent
- 3 People on the main map.
- 1 clerk and 2 shoppers in the Pokemart
- Nurse Joy, a clerk and 3 others in the Pokecenter
- 4 people in houses
