Route 23
Route 23 is a route in the border between Johto and Kanto that connects Route 26 and Route 22 to the south with Victory Road and Mt. Silver (via Route 28) to the north. It also contains a one-way exit from Diamond Dive in the middle of the route.
Geography
From its southern terminus at Route 26, Route 23 initially is a flat and wide path until it merges with the path from Route 22. After the junction it immediately becomes narrower and begins to climb upward. After the first climb it begins the first segment of twisting pathways. At the end of this segment is a bridge over a large canyon. Right south of the bridge is a ledge that prevent access to the exit from Diamond Dive below the bridge. The north side of the bridge immedialy climbs further up the mountain to a slightly open area containing the only trees on the route. The path up the mountain narrows again to the east of that area before turning north west and then north again. At this point the path splits to the west and the north. The west fork goes to a rock climb wall that grants access to Route 28 and Mt. Silver. The other path continues to the end of the route and the entrance to Victory Road.
Badge checkpoints
The route contains no trainers in part because many league officials are spread throughout the route to check that trainers from Kanto and Johto have collected all 8 badges from either region before proceeding to Victory Road. Each official will check for a badge from either region with the exception of the first badge check. These are checked independently in the gates at the south of the route leading to Route 26 and Route 22 and also serve to prevent trainers from crossing to or from Johto and Kanto without having already collected both first badges. The second check point is at the counter at the base of the climb up the mountain. The third is before the bridge. The fourth is stationed above the bridge. The fifth, sixth and seventh are stationed along the small winding canyon, and the eighth is located at the end of the route just outside the entrance to Victory Road.
Diamond Dive Exit
The main river that flows through the outside portions of Diamond Dive has one of its sources on this route. This river can be surfed up from Diamond Dive, under the big bridge, all the way to the spring at the source by climbing several waterfalls. After climbing the first waterfall from Diamond Dive there is also a landing that, after a short climb, will cross a small ledge onto the main path of the route at the southern end of the bridge.
