Blackthorn City
Blackthorn City is a city located in northeast Johto. It is known as "A Quiet Mountain Retreat".
The only way into the city(besides flying) is via Ice Path. Due to the one-way nature of Route 45, if a traveler access the route from any where besides Blackthorn City, they won't be able to get to the City.
Pokémon Trainers often come to Blackthorn City in order to win the Rising Badge from Clair, the Blackthorn Gym Leader, who specializes in Dragon-type Pokémon.
Many famous Dragon-type trainers, including Clair and Lance, come from Blackthorn City. The city even is home to the Dragon-User Clan located in Dragon's Den.
According to a resident in Blackthorn, most Trainers in the city end up being Dragon type specialists. This could be because the local Gym Leader is a Dragon-type Trainer.
Places of interest
Move Deleter's House
A house is located in the southern part of the city, to the left of the Poké Mart.
The Move Deleter lives here, alone. For no charge, he will make a Pokémon forget a move it knows. This is the only way for a Pokémon to forget Hidden Machine moves. In order to delete an Hidden Machine move, the player must first have another Pokémon with that same move in order for it to be deleted.
Ice Path
The Ice Path is the only way into the town from the north. Route 45 is also reachable from the south of Blackthorn, but the steep mountain path means it can be used as an exit only. It is known for its numerous ice puzzles, which vary in size and difficulty. The Ice Path is famous for its rare Jynx, but it has many other Pokémon as well. It is the only place in Johto where wild Swinub, Jynx and Delibird can be caught.
Blackthorn Gym
The Blackthorn Gym is the official Gym of Blackthorn Cith. It is based on Dragon-type Pokémon and the Gym Leader is Clair.
After Clair is defeated, she will refuse to give the player the Rising Badge until the player passes a test in the Dragon's Den.
Dragon's Den
A clan of masters of Dragon-type Pokémon have lived in the city for generations. The masters built the Dragon's Den, a cavern with an underground lake that contains a shrine to Dragon Pokémon, as well as the elders of the Dragon clan. The entrance is located behind the Gym, across a small pond, while the main cavern seems to be located underneath the city itself.
Many strong Trainers can be found within the cavern. The Master of the Dragon User Clan is located here, and he will quiz the player on their attitude towards and treatment of their Pokémon. Correct answers will be rewarded, with a Dratini that knows ExtremeSpeed. Clair will visit to reward the player with the Rising Badge she refused to award in the Gym, as well as TM 24 (DragonBreath).
It is inaccessible before defeating Clair in the Blackthorn Gym, as it is blocked off by a man in front of the cave, and then it must be traversed to finally obtain the Rising Badge.
