Elite Four

The Elite Four are four Pokémon Trainers who are regarded as the toughest in their regional Pokémon League, short of the Pokémon League Champion. Those who challenge the Elite Four must have won all eight Badges from that region and face all four and the current Champion consecutively without losing to any of them.

The Elite Four reside at Indigo Plateau in the area between Johto and Kanto.

Will is the first member of the Elite Four the player will face. He is a master of Psychic type Pokemon and is the ONLY member of the Johto Elite Four to have all of his Pokemon of the correct type. All of his Pokemon have a secondary type as well.

Elite Four Koga

Koga is the second member of the Elite Four the player will face. He is a master of Poison type Pokemon. He used to be the Fuchsia City Gym Leader but has been replaced by his daughter Janine since he became an Elite Four member.

Bruno

Elite Four Bruno

Bruno is the third member of the Elite Four the player will face. He is a master of Fighting type Pokemon. With the exception of his Onix and later his Lucario all of his pokemon are mono-fighting types.

Karen

Elite Four Karen

Karen is the Fourth and final Elite Four member. She is the only female in the Johto Elite Four and is a master of Dark type Pokemon. She also happens to have the fewest Pokémon of her own type of any of the Elite Four on her original team.

Former Members

In the three years since Red became Champion, 3 members retired or were promoted. Lance, the former Elite Four Number 4, currently is the acting champion of both Johto and Kanto. Lorelei retired after an incident with Team Rocket on her home of Four Island led her to prioritize her home's safety. Agatha retired due to her old age. It is implied that the retiring members were each given a Master Ball.
