Ecruteak City Map

Ecruteak City (Japanese: エンジュシティ Enju Shiti) is an old-fashioned city located in north western Johto, situated in the woods near the open fields of Johto's western shores. It connects Route 37 to the south, Route 38 to the west, and Route 42 to the east. It also contains the Burned Tower and the Tin Tower. As with many of the larger cities in the Pokémon world, Ecruteak has a Gym, led by Morty, who specializes in Ghost Pokémon and hands out the Fog Badge to those who defeat him.

Geography

Ecruteak is known as a historical and mythical city; fittingly, its buildings all feature traditional Japanese architecture, while the tallest building in the city, and perhaps all of Johto, is the ten-story Bell Tower in the city's northeast corner, built nearly a millennium before the events of the games. The city is known as being a centerpoint of the legendary Pokémon native to the Johto region, with the great Ho-Oh once being said to have roosted atop the Bell Tower, and having created three legendary beasts of the Pokémon who perished when the Brass Tower burned down.

Places of interest

Ecruteak Gym

The Ecruteak Gym is the official Gym of Ecruteak City. It is based on Ghost-type Pokémon and the Gym Leader is Morty.

The Gym structure is designed to confuse challengers with an invisible floor. Only certain tiles can be stepped on to move on. Should the player walk on a non-solid tile, the player will be warped back to the beginning of the Gym. At the end stands Morty, who will battle any challengers of the Gym. After Morty is defeated, he will give the player the Fog Badge, and the ability to use Surf outside of battle.

Dance Theater

The "Kimono" Dance Theater is where the Kimono Girls dance.

Burned Tower

The sad remains of this once-great tower, in the northwestern corner of the city, are all that is left after a fire engulfed it 150 years before the events of the games. It was once as majestic as the Tin Tower to the east, with the two towers representative of where Pokémon awakened and where they slept.

Tin Tower

A majestic tower to the east, the Tin Tower is where Ho-Oh was once said to roost. With the Rainbow Wing, the player is able to prove to Ho-Oh that he or she is a pure-hearted person who will bring Pokémon and people back into harmony with one another.

Demographics

Ecruteak City's known population is 34.
