The Team Rocket HQ is a headquarters and a hideout for Team Rocket, located beneath the souvenir shop in Mahogany Town. For a period of time, Team Rocket used the headquarters as a power source to send out high-frequency sound waves, which disturbed the Pokémon in Mahogany Town, Lake of Rage, and other surrounding locations, and affected their evolution patterns. It is also the source of the problems occurring at the lake, involving the appearance of a Red Gyarados.

After the player encounters the Red Gyarados, Lance enlists the help from the player to stop Team Rocket's plans. After Ariana is defeated, she explains that they were trying to evolve the Magikarp living in the Lake of Rage because Gyarados are far more profitable and rare than their pre-evolutionary form. Team Rocket abandon the headquarters, and search for their next phase of action.

Layout
According to the Team Rocket members found inside the hideout, it was once used as a ninja base, and was presumably renovated by Team Rocket sometime in the past. The upper floor of the base contains Persian statues with security cameras in their eyes—walking past one triggers two Team Rocket Grunts to battle the player until they deactivate the cameras using a switch in the center of the area. The far left hallway bypasses most of the Persian cameras, but the floor is booby-trapped with Koffing, Voltorb and Geodude, which battle the player and have a tendency to Selfdestruct. The second floor contains the generator room where six Electrode power the radio transmitter. The room is locked and requires a password to open. The third floor contains workstations, and a passage back onto the second floor leads to the rear of the hideout where the main office is located. The office is also locked and requires two passwords to open.

When Lance and the player invade the hideout, the player must defeat the male Grunt and the female Grunt on the third floor to acquire the two passwords to the main office. After defeating Petrel here the Murkrow next to his desk tells the player the password to the generator room is "Hail Giovanni". When the player opens the doors to the Generator Room Ariana challenges you to a battle. Once the Electrode powering the generator are defeated, Lance gives the player the HM containing Whirlpool as thanks for the assistance.

Though Lance instructs the player to knock out the Electrode powering the generator, the player is able to catch them if they choose to do so, and the result will be the same as if they had knocked them out.

The Lake of Rage, also known as Pokémon_List/Gyarados Lake, is a location in North Western Johto. It is located just north of Mahogany Town, connected to it by Route 43, making it the northern-most accessible point of the Johto region. A large lake spans the area of the Lake of Rage, with a few residents living nearby. It is said to be the largest lake in the region. West of the lake lies a labyrinth of trees, which hides a house.

It is said the Lake of Rage was created the last time many Gyarados got together and stirred up a storm. The crater that remained filled with rainwater and became the Lake of Rage. In the middle of the lake dwells a Shiny Gyarados that had recently became irritable due to the radio waves transmitted by Team Rocket from their hideout in Mahogany Town. The Lake of Rage was considered a dangerous place to go, as the Red Gyarados started tipping over boats and scaring swimmers.

Geography
The Lake of Rage is located north of Route 43. Along the way to the Lake of Rage, the player will meet several members of Team Rocket. By surfing into the middle of the lake, the player will encounter a Red Gyarados. After catching, defeating or fleeing from it, the player will receive a Red Scale. Lance, of the Elite Four, will be waiting for the player on the shore afterwards, and will speak of the secret Team Rocket HQ in Mahogany Town.

To the northwest of the lake, there is a house hidden within a labyrinth of trees. Inside, a man will give players TM10 (Hidden Power) for locating the reclusive house. The path to this house begins in Route 43, on the western side.

Southeast of the lake is another house, where a Fishing Guru resides. His greatest dream is to see the world's largest Magikarp, and he regularly measures those brought to him in order to realize it. If the player brings him a large enough Magikarp, he will give the player an Ether as a prize.

The player can also Fly to the Lake of Rage.
Mt Mortar is a large cave in Johto with three entrances on Route 42. Part of the large range of mountains north of the Johto region, it is known to be a confusing maze-like area with an interior cave known as the Waterfall Cave. It is an optional cave to enter, but contains many valuable items and Pokémon.

Geography
Mt. Mortar has three entrances and is huge inside, one of the largest of all caves in the games. It has four floors, and its high Pokémon-encounter rate makes getting lost very costly. It has Surfable waterways, Waterfalls, Strength puzzles, and multiple levels. It is usually considered to be one of the toughest caves to navigate.
The Glitter Lighthouse (Japanese: かがやきのとうだい Radiance Lighthouse) or Olivine Lighthouse (Japanese: アサギのとうだい Asagi Lighthouse) is a location in Olivine City, Johto.
It is here that Trainers will first find Jasmine, the Olivine Gym Leader, from a hint by their rival. Amphy is an Ampharos who serves as a beacon for the lighthouse. Recently, Amphy has become ill, and Jasmine, nurturing Amphy to health, will not leave for any reason until Amphy is cured.

She asks the player if he or she will travel across the sea to nearby Cianwood City to get a SecretPotion, then bring it back to her.
While Jasmine has no fightable junior Trainers in her Gym, the lighthouse poses a challenge which provides more than enough of a counterbalance to it, as there are many Trainers on each of its floors.

The Burned Tower (Japanese: やけたとう Burned Tower) is a location in Ecruteak City formerly as tall as the Bell Tower to the east. It burned down mysteriously 150 years prior to the events of the game and . Before the great fire that caused its destruction the tower was called Brass Tower (Japanese: かねのとう Kane Tower).

According to some legends, Lugia once perched here. However, when the tower burned down, Lugia fled to the Whirl Islands to live, while Ho-Oh, which lived in the Bell Tower, flew away in search of a pure-hearted Trainer. Three unnamed Pokémon perished in the fire; Ho-Oh returned briefly to revive them after the fire had been put out. These Pokémon, the legendary beasts Raikou, Entei, and Suicune, were destined to speed across the land since their revival.

The player encounters Raikou, Entei, and Suicune for the first time in the basement of the Burned Tower, who then flee. This is also where Rival will challenge the player once again, with the second form of the starter he stole.

It is said that, before it burned down, the tower was known as the Brass Tower, with gleaming golden panels of brass to compliment the Tin Tower's silvery panels of tin.

History
The tower was built 700 years before the time of the game alongside its twin, the Bell Tower. The two towers were meant to foster friendship between people and Pokémon. Many people, mostly ancestors of Ecruteak Gym Leader Morty, traveled to the tops of these towers to commune with the legendary Pokémon residing there.

Suddenly, 150 years before the events of the game, this tower burned down in a mysterious fire, ignited by a bolt of lightning and put out by a sudden downpour. This fire, which may have had some relation to the drought that a Slowpoke ended in Azalea Town, caused three nameless Pokémon to perish. Ho-Oh, fleeing from its perch, granted new life to the Pokémon, making them into the legendary beasts before flying in search of a pure-hearted Trainer. The three events of the fire, the lightning bolt, raging blaze, and sudden downpour, are said to have some relation to the three beasts.

Ilex Forest (Japanese: ウバメのもり Ubame Forest) is a dense forest located in southern Johto, directly west of Azalea Town. The forest's trees are so close together that all light is blocked out, and the forest seems to be in a perpetual night. Directly north is Route 34.

Geography
Ilex Forest is a winding path through dense trees connecting Azalea Town. There are many patches of long grass on the ground where low-leveled Pokémon can be found. Travelers can enter at either end with no trouble at all, but to pass through to the other side they must be able to use the move Cut outside of battle.

When the player enters the forest, the only way to proceed through the next section of the forest is to return a runaway Farfetch'd for the regional cutting master's son, thus receiving HM 1 (Cut) as a reward, allowing the player to clear the path from a cuttable tree. This is done by using the forest's layout to chase it back, using a looped path on the far eastern side, as well as a cliff area. In order to tactically return the runaway Farfetch'd to its owner, the player must corner it and lead it into the direction of the owner. Once the Farfetch'd are returned, HM 1 (Cut) will be obtained.

The shrine is a small structure located in the Ilex Forest. It can be found in the deepest part of Ilex Forest, situated right in the center of the forest itself.

Demographics
The Slowpoke Well (Japanese: ヤドンのいど Yadon Well) is a man-made cave located at the edge of Azalea Town. It is located just north-west of Route 33, first seen on the way to Azalea Town. The cave is home to a wide variety of wild Pokémon, but is unique for being the home of Azalea Town's Slowpoke, which they use as pets. It is said that a Slowpoke from the well ended a drought that plagued Azalea Town 400 years before the games' events by yawning.
The Slowpoke Well is where the player first encounters the revived Team Rocket, who are cutting off the tails of Slowpoke to sell at their HQ. Before talking to Kurt in his house, there will be a Team Rocket Grunt guarding the entrance of the well, and will not let anyone in. When entering Kurt's house for the first time, he will quickly run out after saying something about going to the Slowpoke Well. He will defeat the grunt at the entrance, then will fall into the well and injure his back. After Kurt is injured while trying to stop Team Rocket, the player has to defeat the Grunts and rescue the kidnapped Slowpoke.
Geography
Exterior
The Slowpoke Well is located on the east side of Azalea Town, just north of Route 33. The well is actually a large cave with many chambers. The Slowpoke Well can be accessed to by going down a ladder into the dark cave below. The aesthetics of the well has also been updated to show a small, circular, brick well, which can only be entered by going straight into the hole of the well.

Interior
Upon entering the cave, there will be a small pool of water to the west, and a narrow passageway to the north. During the Team Rocket attack, the cave will be populated with Team Rocket Grunts looking for battle. By traveling up and down the small ledge, the other side of the cave can be reached. From there, the path travels north, then west through a narrow strip between the wall of the well and rocks, finally traveling south to a pool of water deep within the cave.

Union Cave is a cave located in south Johto. The main cave divides Route 32 from Route 33, though two other exits in the basement levels of the cave lead to the Ruins of Alph. A wild Lapras can also be encountered deep in the cave every Friday after Morty has been defeated (as Surf is required to get to it).

Geography
Although brighter inside, Union cave shares many characteristics with Dark Cave as its rocks and bolders go.

The cave is said to be connected to the ocean, which is a result of water flowing into all levels of the cave.

Demographics
Union Cave contains 12 people all of which are trainers.

Geography
There are several scientists in the area listening and studying the ruins to discover more about them. They say it is more than it seems and that the puzzles in the caves must have something to do with the mystery of the past of the Ruins of Alph. In the area there are several small caves, each with an intractable wall at the end of them, interacting with said wall will result in the player warping to the actual ruins.

Demography
The Ruins of Alph contains people including:
* 3 scientists
* 4 gate keepers
* 1 trainer
Sprout Tower is a three story training dungeon in Violet City.

It's also a tall and wobbling pagoda, run by Buddhist monks who train Pokémon, all the while teaching people that all living beings coexist through cooperation. These monks mostly train Bellsprout, although occasionally use Hoothoot.

Many people believe that a hundred-foot Bellsprout was used to make the central pillar.

Demographics
Sprout Tower contains 7 people including:
* 8 Sages (6 will battle)
* Elder Li

Dark Cave is a single level cave in eastern Johto that connects Route 31, Route 46, and, via the back cave, Route 45. It's not necessary to enter the cave to complete the storyline.

As the name implies, the cave is indeed very dark. The player's line of sight is obscured when they're in this area.

The cave itself cannot be explored at the moment, as an extra cliff was inserted to prevent going very far inside.

Geography
Blackthorn side
The northernmost point in the cave is at the entrance leading to and from Route 45 just south of Blackthorn City. The path of the cave makes a 90-degree turn to the right before proceeding south for a short distance to the first of two underground ponds in the cave. Trainers can Surf directly south and then walk west or surf further west and cross a raised section of the cave before proceding south again to reach the other side and the exit to the Violet side of the cave. Hopping down the ledges in this section of the cave means you cannot go back.

Violet side
Immediately after emerging from the north half, the path comes to the second of two ponds. Trainers can Surf to the west from this point to reach Route 31, or, if a Pokémon knows Rock Smash, they can also Surf to the south and dispose of a series of rocks as they head north and and then eastward and then finally back south to reach Route 46.
Route 43 is a route in North Eastern Johto, connecting Mahogany Town and Lake of Rage.

Geography
Route 43 has two paths to travel on it. One of these paths, while more convenient as there is no long grass on it, will cost 1000 if a Trainer travels on it before vanquishing Team Rocket. The other side of the path, however, features many Trainers and a lot of long grass to make it through to get to the lake.

The first of these two paths in the one on the right, which takes the player through a gate. After passing through and ending up on the other side, there is a straight path north which curves slightly leftward before opening up and allowing passage straight to the Lake of Rage.

The second path, to the left, features nearly complete coverage by long grass, as well as a multitude of Trainers. While on this path, Trainers may use Surf to reach an upper part of the route that is not otherwise able to be reached except on a trip back from the Lake of Rage, which takes a path northward around the lake.
Route 42 is a route in central Johto, connecting Ecruteak City and Mahogany Town. Mt. Mortar lies on the route with multiple entrances along the route.

Geography
Upon leaving from either the western or eastern terminus, a Trainer must have a Pokémon with Surf to continue, as the route is divided twice over by small lakes. On the small landmass between the two, there is a tree that is able to be Cut, leading to a trio of Apricorn trees, much like those on Route 37.

Each of the landmasses on the route also features an entrance to a different part of Mt. Mortar.

After seeing it in Cianwood City, Suicune appears on the overworld near the Apricorn trees, but flees if the player gets close.
Route 41 is a route in southwestern Johto. This route connects Cianwood City to the west and Route 40 to the north. It also contains the Whirl Islands

Geography
Route 41 more or less exists only around the Whirl Islands, whose entrances are unable to be penetrated until the Trainer has Whirlpool. Even still, entering these islands is pretty fruitless without the Silver Wing, which calls out to Lugia. However, the water of this route is still home to a rare Pokémon: Mantine.

A Trainer may Surf around the Islands in any way they please; however, directly south of the southernmost of the Whirl Islands, the route turns due west towards Cianwood City.
Route 39 is a route in northwestern Johto. This route connects Route 38 to the east and Olivine City to the south.

Geography
Route 39 is almost perfectly straight and has no major obstacles. There is only one patch of grass that contains wild Pokémon, and this area is located off the beaten path.

Along Route 39, there are four Trainers: one near the entrance to MooMoo Farm and three near the southern end of the route.

All of the items on Route 39 are concentrated near MooMoo Farm. Outside of the farm, a Berry tree contains a Mint Berry. Inside of the farm, the player can purchase Moomoo Milk and obtain TM13 (Snore) upon restoring the farm's Miltank to full health by feeding it a large number of Berries.

Points of Interest
Moo Moo Farm
The MooMoo Farm is a small farm located on Route 39. It contains a small paddock where Miltank graze, a barn house, and another house where the owners live. The paddock is located on the south side of the farm, where four Miltank peacefully graze all day. In the barn, lives a sick Miltank named MooMoo. Two children try to nurse the sick Pokémon, but nothing seems to work. If the player gives MooMoo seven ordinary Berries, it will gradually get better. In the building next to the barn is the house where the family who owns the farm lives. It contains two farmers, a man and a woman. The man will sell MooMoo Milk to the player for 500 after MooMoo returns to health. The woman will reward the player with TM13 (Snore. In total there are five Miltank that appear on the farm.
Route 38 is a route in northwestern Johto. This route connects Ecruteak City to the east and Route 39 to the west.

Geography
Even though Route 38 maintains a pure east-west alignment as a whole, there are no fewer than four separate paths. Over half of the northern most path is made up of grass patches.

The upper middle path is a branch of the northern path. There are no Trainers along this short stretch; there is, however, a patch of grass.
Unlike the two upper paths, which allow for two-way traffic, the lower paths are configured to allow only one direction of passage. The lower middle path is designed as a viable alternative to the grass-lined northern path. The path heads due west from the gate and travels down a fence-lined walkway. Past here, there is a Berry bush just before a cliff that overlooks a grass-lined pathway. After hopping this cliff, Trainers are forced to head north along this passageway, merging into the upper middle path.

The southern-most path is designed so that only eastward movements are permitted. After breaking from the northern path, the path heads south, passing a signpost before traversing a cliff that borders a T-intersection. At this junction, Trainers can either head north into the field of grass along the lower middle path or continue east along the southern edge of the cliff of the lower middle path.
Route 37 is a route in central Johto that is connected to Route 36 to the south and to Ecruteak City to the north

Geography
Route 37 begins not too far north of where Sudowoodo was found on Route 36. On its western half, there is a bi-directional path. This road makes its way north from Route 36 and loops aren't a small tree. From there, a large gap in a wide cliff, which allows the path to continue north past a large patch of tall grass and a signpost.
However, the eastern half of the route holds greater treasures for Trainers. Unlike, the western side, this path can only be traversed in one direction; north-to-south. The path begins by jumping a small cliff. The stretch continues south past the patch of tall grass, until it connects with the western half at the southern entrance.
Route 34 is a route in southwestern Johto. It can be entered from Ilex Forest from the south or Goldenrod City from the north.

Geography
The route is essentially straightforward after exiting Ilex Forest. There is a path where no long grass grows, however, it is filled with many Trainers. This road can be difficult if a Trainer doesn't go back to Azalea Town to heal their Pokémon after facing his/her rival in the forest.
The Day Care, ran by an old man, is one of the most prominent things located here.

Points of interest
Daycare
The Daycare, run by an old couple, is one of the most prominent things located here. Located merely steps away from the famous Goldenrod City, this center allows for compatible male and female Pokémon to breed and produce an Egg. It also allows Trainers to leave up to two of their Pokémon to level up, costing like other Pokémon Day Cares, PDollar100 plus an additional PDollar100 per level up for each Pokémon.

Demographics
Currently there are 11 people on this route
* The Daycare couple.
* Six Trainers in the main part of the route.
* Three trainers in the South western surf access only part of the route.
Route 33 is a route in southern Johto, connecting Union Cave and Azalea Town.

On this route, rain is always present.

Geography
The fifth route that Trainers from New Bark Town encounter, Route 33 is a short route that travels west to Azalea Town.

This route is not very long, since Trainers have already traveled through Union Cave and passed Route 32 to reach this clearing. After exiting Union Cave through a small opening, the player will find a small clearing with a sign. After climbing down the stairs or jumping the cliff, the player can either go west or find a patch of tall grass. By going west, the player will be able to find two Apricorn trees.

By continuing west, the player will finally reach Azalea Town, the next town on the Trainer's quest.

Demographics
Route 33 contains 2 people one of which is a trainer:
Route 32 is a route in southern Johto that connects Violet City at north, Union Cave at south and Ruins of Alph at northwest.

Geography
The fourth route that Trainers from New Bark Town encounter, Route 32 is the first in Johto to see the player's destination to the south– and a far-off one at that. After exiting Violet City through a small path with a Yellow Apricorn in a clearing, the player comes to a three-way intersection. Either they can head back up north, to Violet City, if they have some business to finish there, or continue south along the route. After moving south around the large rock, players will find a cut-able tree on its western side.

From there, the player should head south, going east or west around the next rock. A small bit further south, the route opens up, and players can go along the western side of a small inlet of ocean or cross this on the pier. A little southwest of the pier is a patch of grass.

At this point, players should reach the Pokémon Center.
Walking straight south from the Center's entrance, is the entrance to Union Cave, the first mandatory cave of Johto.

Is a route in central Johto, connecting Route 30 and Violet City.

The western entrance to Dark Cave is located on the eastern part of the route.

Geography
This route is the third route that Trainers starting in New Bark Town will arrive at.

Like the route before it, Route 31 contains more than an even share of cliffs that players need to go around to get to Violet City, but may jump over on their way back. A small pond is north of the route, just west of Dark Cave.

Featuring one Trainer and a small area, all that a traveling Trainer really has to look out for on this route are the wild Pokémon.

There is a man who seems to be in a sleep-like state that is located next to the pond.

Points of interest
Dark Cave
An entrance to Dark Cave is located on this route.

However, you can only access a very tiny part of the cave because the rest of it is separated by cliffs.

Demographics
Route 31 contains 6 people including:

is a route in southcentral Johto that connects Cherrygrove City and Route 31.

Geography
Route 30 is the second route encountered by Trainers in Johto. From its southern terminus at Cherrygrove City, the route turns northeast to avoid a cliff on the route that overlooks a patch of grass. Heading south, this cliff can be used to avoid the grass altogether.

The route emerges in an open area just north of the cliff. In the center of the area is the Berry House, where the player may learn about Apricorns and Berries. To the left of this house is an Apricorn tree. West of the tree is a southbound-only path containing a cliff preventing northbound access. East of the house is a two-way path that runs along a small pond and through another area of grass.

North of the grass patch, the route comes to another open area. Here, Route 30 splits into two segments, a western path that leads to Route 31 and an eastern path that leads to the house of Mr. Pokémon. Initially, the player must take the east path north through a series of grassy areas to Mr. Pokémon's house, located in the northeast corner of the route, to meet Professor Oak and receive the Pokédex. Mr. Pokémon also gives the player an Egg to take to Professor Elm.
The western branch of the route is impassable until after the player has defeated his/her rival back in New Bark Town. Once this is complete, the player may continue northward, weaving around cliffs and Trainers and passing through grassy areas towards Dark Cave and Route 31.

There is a small Cut-able tree near Mr. Pokémon's house that allows for passage between the two halves of the route, which is separated by a dense forest for most of the route.

Points of interest
Mr. Pokémons house
Here lives Mr. Pokémon who researches Pokémon as a hobby.

He contacted Prof. Elm about a Pokémon egg you have to bring to the professor. Also, the player meets Prof. Oak here the first time and obtains the Pokédex.

Mr. Pokémon gives the player the Mystery Egg that the player will have to deliver to Prof. Elm in New Bark Town.

Berry House
In this house resides a man who has mastery over tending to Apricorns and Berries, and he'll pass on the information to the player.

He will also give away a free sample of a Pink Apricorn and a Qualot Berry on his first visit.

Demography
Route 32 contains 8 people including:
* Mr. Pokemon
* 3 trainers
* Berry Man

connects New Bark Town and Cherrygrove City.

Through a gate in the middle of this route the player can reach the southern part of Route 46.

Geography
Trainers traveling from Cherrygrove City to New Bark Town can hop over a series of cliffs to avoid the grassy areas and to travel between the two areas quickly while Trainers traveling from New Bark Town to Cherrygrove City must travel through a series of grass patches to reach their destination. The first such patch is near the start of the route where the path turns south into the patch to circumvent a cliff. Route 29 westbound continues to follow the cliff south, then to the west before the route opens up at a T-intersection. To the west, Trainers whose Pokémon can use Cut outside of battle can chop down a tree to open a grass-less path to Cherrygrove City. Those who do not have Cut, however, must go north through a break in the cliff.

There is another tree that can be Cut to avoid two grass patches to the northeast. However, Trainers lacking Cut are forced to traverse either of the two patches. Regardless of which way a Trainer takes, the route curves to the west, merging with the second Cut shortcut path directly south of a gate which separates Route 29 from Route 46 in the north. Between this and Cherrygrove City is your first encounter with rival.

Mahogany Town is a small town in north-eastern Johto. Its English motto is "Home of the Ninja," because of the ninjas that once resided in what eventually became the Team Rocket HQ. There are three exits out of town. To the west is Route 42, to the east is Route 44, and to the north is Route 43, which leads directly to the famous Lake of Rage.

Geography
Pokémon Trainers must come to Mahogany Town in order to win the Glacier Badge from Pryce, the Mahogany Gym Leader who specializes in Ice-type Pokémon. Mahogany is a quiet, relaxed town, and has no Poké Mart. Instead, there is a shop used by Team Rocket as a base.

When the town is first entered, there is a man blocking the eastern exit who wants to sell the player a RageCandyBar. Even after buying the RageCandyBar, the man will still not let the player pass, saying that the player needs to see the attractions in the town and the surrounding area.

Places of Interest
Souvenir Shop
There is no Poké Mart in Mahogany Town, only a small shop in the middle of town. It is a convenience store that sells supplies necessary for Pokémon training. The shop is run by a creepy old man, that seems very suspicious. However, the shop is actually just a cover up for the Team Rocket HQ, of which the stairway down to the hideout is concealed under a false floor. After Team Rocket was run out of town, the old man abandons the shop.

Inside the little store are tables of random assortments of items. The counter is located on the western side of the shop, where the shopkeeper serves various items. There is also a calculator and a radio on the counter of the shop.

Team Rocket HQ
The Team Rocket HQ is the headquarters and a hideout for Team Rocket, located beneath the heart of Mahogany Town, and the entrance is located under a cabinet in the souvenir shop. The hideout was originally used as a base for ninjas that once resided here, giving the town the motto "Home of the Ninja" ("Welcome to the Home of the Ninja!" in Generation II). However, after the ninjas left, Team Rocket used the headquarters as a power source to send out high-frequency sound waves, which disturbed the Pokémon in Mahogany Town, Lake of Rage, and other surrounding locations, and affected their evolution patterns. It is also the source of the problems occurring at the lake, involving the appearance of a Red Gyarados.

Mahogany Gym
The Mahogany Gym is the official Gym of Mahogany Town. It specializes in Ice-type Pokémon. The Gym Leader is Pryce. Trainers who defeat him receive the Glacier Badge. Pryce cannot be challenged the first time the player arrives in Mahogany Town. A man is blocking entry to the Gym: he will only leave once Team Rocket has been defeated at their headquarters and the Gyarados at the nearby Lake of Rage have been calmed.

In order to get to the leader, one must correctly navigate an ice maze. After Leader Pryce is defeated, he will give the player the Glacier Badge and TM16 (Icy Wind).

Demographics
Mahogany Town has a permanent population of 15. As well as 4 members who leave after completing certain plot points.
the permanent population includes:
* 2 clerks
* Pryce
* Gym Guy
* 5 gym trainers
Cianwood City is a city located in southwestern Johto, It connects to Route 41 to the east. As with many of the larger cities in the Pokémon world, Cianwood has a Gym, led by Chuck, who specializes in Fighting Pokémon and hands out the Storm Badge to those who defeat him.

Geography
Cianwood City is located in on the far western edge of Johto, apparently on a totally different landmass than the rest of the region. Its motto is "A Port Surrounded by Rough Seas!" Due to Cianwood City being at a dead end location in the Johto region, it was not a popular destination.

Tales of Lugia and the whirlpools it creates circulate among the sailors that stop in this port town.

Olivine City (Japanese: アサギシティ Asagi City) is located on the Johto coast, near Ecruteak City and Cianwood City. Olivine is a major port city and is the home of the Glitter Lighthouse. The Glitter Lighthouse guide ships to the harbor as well as the S.S. Aqua connecting it to the port city in its sister region, Vermilion City in Kanto. It connects to Route 39 to the north and Route 40 to the west.

Pokémon Trainers often come to Olivine City in order to win the Mineral Badge from Jasmine, the Olivine Gym Leader who specializes in Steel-type Pokémon.
Olivine Gym
The Olivine Gym is the official Gym of Olivine City. It is based on Steel-type Pokémon and the Gym Leader is Jasmine.

Olivine Cafe
Olivine Café is a restaurant west of the Pokémon Center. It is known to be a place for Sailors to stop after a long trip on the sea to rest and eat. Olivine Café prides itself on its generous-sized menu that is "chock-full of hearty fare for beefy Sailors". The Café consists of a bar with many stools around it and a circular table surrounded by seats. Many people there are happily eating their food; one nearly chokes because he hadn't chewed before he swallowed. A sailor who eats there gives away HM04 (Strength).

Shining Lighthouse
Olivine is home to the Glitter Lighthouse, illuminated by an Ampharos, aptly named Amphy. It is here that Jasmine, the Olivine Gym Leader, is first encountered. Amphy is an Ampharos who serves as a beacon for the lighthouse. Recently, Amphy has become ill, and Jasmine, nurturing Amphy to health, will not leave for any reason. She asks the player to travel across the sea to Cianwood City to get a special medicine, then bring it back to her.

While there are no Trainers other than Jasmine in Olivine Gym, the lighthouse poses a challenge which provides more than enough of a counterbalance to it, as there are many Trainers on each of its floors.
