It connects [[Route 37]] to the south, [[Route 38]] to the west, and [[Route 42]] to the east. It also contains the [[Burned Tower]] and the [[Tin Tower]].As with many of the larger cities in the [[Pokémon List|Pokémon]] world, Ecruteak has a [[Ecruteak Gym|Gym]], led by [[Gym Leaders#Morty|Morty]], who specializes in [[Ghost]] [[Pokémon List|Pokémon]] and hands out the Fog Badge to those who defeat him.

The [[Ecruteak Gym]] is the official [[Pokémon Gym|Gym]] of Ecruteak City. It is based on [[Ghost]]-type [[Pokémon List|Pokémon]] and the Gym Leader is [[Gym Leaders#Morty|Morty]].

The [[Gym]] structure is designed to confuse challengers with an invisible floor. Only certain tiles can be stepped on to move on. Should the player walk on a non-solid tile, the player will be warped back to the beginning of the Gym. At the end stands [[Gym Leaders#Morty|Morty]], who will battle any challengers of the [[Gym]]. After Morty is defeated, he will give the player the Fog [[Badge]], and the ability to use [[Surf]] outside of battle.

The Goldenrod Radio Tower is a five-story tower located next to the [[Magnet Train]] station in [[Goldenrod City]], the largest city in [[Johto]]. The radio tower broadcasts numerous programs daily, the most prominent of such being [[Characters#Professors|Professor Oak]]'s [[Pokémon Talk]] and [[Buena's Password]]. For a short time the tower falls victim to the clutches of Team Rocket, during which time none of the normal broadcasts are aired.

Following the defeat of {{GL|Pryce}} at the [[Mahogany Town]] [[Mahogany Gym|Gym]], it is necessary to purge the Radio Tower of [[Team Rocket]] in order to continue the storyline because until the Radio Tower has been returned to normal, a man selling RageCandyBars will prevent access to [[Route 44]], the eastern path out of Mahogany. After defeating [[Team Rocket#Executive Petrel|Executive Petrel]] disuised as the [[Characters#Radio Tower Personnel|Director]] in the fifth floor office, the main character will receive the [[Basement Key]], which opens up a sealed area of the [[Underground]]. Upon finding the real station manager in the second basement of the [[Goldenrod Department Store]], he will give the main character a [[Card Key]] to open the door on the third floor that separates the upper floors of the tower in two. With the Card Key in tow, the main character can ascend to the fifth floor studio to defeat the current team rocket boss, [[Team Rocket#Executive Archer|Executive Archer]], effectively disbanding the organization. To show his gratitude, the station manager will give the main character a [[Rainbow Wing]] or a [[Silver Wing]].

'''Ilex Forest''' (Japanese: '''ウバメのもり''' ''Ubame Forest'') is a dense forest located in southern [[Places/Johto|Johto]], directly west of [[Azalea Town]]. The forest's trees are so close together that all light is blocked out, and the forest seems to be in a perpetual night. Directly north is [[Route 34]].

==Geography==
Ilex Forest is a winding path through dense trees connecting [[Azalea Town]]. There are many patches of long grass on the ground where low-leveled [[Pokémon List|Pokémon]] can be found. Travelers can enter at either end with no trouble at all, but to pass through to the other side they must be able to use the move [[Cut]] outside of battle.

When the [[player]] enters the forest, the only way to proceed through the next section of the forest is to return a runaway [[Pokémon List/Farfetch'd|Farfetch'd]] for the regional [[Characters#Service Provider|Charcoal Maker]]'s son, thus receiving [[HM 1]] ([[Cut]]) as a reward, allowing the [[player]] to clear the path from a cuttable tree. This is done by using the forest's layout to chase it back, using a looped path on the far eastern side, as well as a [[cliff]] area. In order to tactically return the runaway [[Pokémon List/Farfetch'd|Farfetch'd]] to its owner, the [[player]] must corner it and lead it into the direction of the owner. Once the Farfetch'd are returned, [[HM 1]] (Cut) will be obtained.

The shrine is a small structure located in the Ilex Forest. It can be found in the deepest part of Ilex Forest, situated right in the center of the forest itself.

Cianwood City is located in on the far western edge of Johto, apparently on a totally different landmass than the rest of the region. Its motto is "A Port Surrounded by Rough Seas!" Due to Cianwood City being at a dead end location in the Johto region, it was not a popular destination.

Tales of Lugia and the whirlpools it creates circulate among the sailors that stop in this port town.

is a route in southcentral [[Places/Johto|Johto]] that connects [[Cherrygrove City]] and [[Route 31]].

==Geography==
Route 30 is the second route encountered by Trainers in [[Places/Johto|Johto]]. From its southern terminus at [[Cherrygrove City]], the route turns northeast to avoid a [[cliff]] on the route that overlooks a patch of grass. Heading south, this [[cliff]] can be used to avoid the grass altogether.

The route emerges in an open area just north of the [[cliff]]. In the center of the area is the Berry House, where the [[player]] may learn about [[Apricorns]] and [[Berries]]. To the left of this house is an [[Apricorn]] tree. West of the tree is a southbound-only path containing a [[cliff]] preventing northbound access. East of the house is a two-way path that runs along a small pond and through another area of grass.

North of the grass patch, the route comes to another open area. Here, Route 30 splits into two segments, a western path that leads to Route 31 and an eastern path that leads to the house of [[Characters#Important Characters|Mr. Pokémon]]. Initially, the player must take the east path north through a series of grassy areas to Mr. Pokémon's house, located in the northeast corner of the route, to meet Professor Oak and receive the [[Pokédex]]. Mr. Pokémon also gives the player an [[Mystery Egg|Egg]] to take to [[Professor Elm]].
The western branch of the route is impassable until after the player has defeated his/her [[rival]] back in [[New Bark Town]]. Once this is complete, the [[player]] may continue northward, weaving around [[cliff|cliffs]] and Trainers and passing through grassy areas towards [[Dark Cave]] and [[Route 31]].

East of the house is a two-way path that runs along a small pond and through another area of grass.

North of the grass patch, the route comes to another open area. Here, Route 30 splits into two segments, a western path that leads to Route 31 and an eastern path that leads to the house of [[Characters#Important Characters|Mr. Pokémon]]. Initially, the player must take the east path north through a series of grassy areas to Mr. Pokémon's house, located in the northeast corner of the route, to meet Professor Oak and receive the [[Pokédex]]. Mr. Pokémon also gives the player an [[Mystery Egg|Egg]] to take to [[Professor Elm]].
The western branch of the route is impassable until after the player has defeated his/her [[rival]] back in [[New Bark Town]]. Once this is complete, the [[player]] may continue northward, weaving around [[cliff|cliffs]] and Trainers and passing through grassy areas towards [[Dark Cave]] and [[Route 31]].

There is a small [[Cut]]-able tree near Mr. Pokémon's house that allows for passage between the two halves of the route, which is separated by a dense forest for most of the route.

Here lives Mr. Pokémon who researches [[Pokémon List|Pokémon]] as a hobby.

He contacted [[Professor Elm|Prof. Elm]] about a [[Pokémon List|Pokémon]] [[Mystery Egg|egg]] you have to bring to the [[Professor Elm|professor]]. Also, the [[player]] meets Prof. Oak here the first time and obtains the [[Pokédex]].

Mr. Pokémon gives the [[player]] the [[Mystery Egg]] that the [[player]] will have to deliver to [[Professor Elm|Prof. Elm]] in [[New Bark Town]].

=== Berry House ===
In this house resides a man who has mastery over tending to [[Apricorn|Apricorns]] and [[Berries]], and he'll pass on the information to the [[player]].

He will also give away a free sample of a [[Apricorn|Pink Apricorn]] and a [[Berry|Qualot Berry]] on his first visit.
